300 1CCed shmups!

I have done this 300 times already. I mean, playing a shmup to the end with no continues and then writing a bit about the experience here.

Is that too much?
Have I started to scratch the bottom of the barrel?

The answer to both questions is, obviously, NO.

So here's to 300 blog entries for shmups 1CCed on video game consoles. From the last hundred 89 were done for the first time (cross-platform games counted), and 11 were comebacks for higher 1CC scores.

Back in July 2010 I wrote a similar article celebrating 100 1CCs. By then I asked people what games they'd like to see here, and a fellow shmupper suggested Wings of Wor, Giga Wing 2 and Shikigami No Shiro II. The only one left for me to conquer is the latter, which is just as brutal as I expected but is about to break - if I'm competent enough. Apologies for taking so long to actually play them, buddy!

So now I repeat the same question. Is there any shmup you'd like to see here?
And before the funny bunch starts making jokes: yes, I'm ready to face DoDonPachi Dai-ou-jou!

  1. Well, I think I've already made my love for the Touhou series pretty clear. So instead, I'm going to recommend Strikers 1945(Playstation Version) since it was the first Shmup I ever played.

  2. Congrats. And I think you know what game I want you to 1cc?

  3. Impressive, master Edward. You are not a master by any chance, let the next 100 1CCs come.

  4. I definitely appreciate your reviews, and I do have a suggestion for you. Could you possibly add a Games List (maybe something similar to this - http://superadventuresingaming.blogspot.com/p/game-list.html ) This way one could browse through your blog posts by system with a simple list. Just a thought.

Thanks, and here's to another hundred posts!

    1. Tks!

You mean like a separate page?
I have one where I keep track of the collection (http://www.kollision.biz/games/shmups/glist_shmups.htm), but I'll try to come up with a section containing a list of posts in alphabetical order.

    2. That page of yours is pretty good and works for me, although that list without all of the non-blogged games is more in line with what I was thinking. (Similar to the link that I posted.)

      Thanks,

P.S. When are you going to 1CC Sapphire for the PC Engine? It's a great game, and it deserves to be in your 1cc'd list (along with many other PC Engine shoot-'em-up gems).

    3. You already gave me ideas, man... hehehehe
      And Sapphire, check!

  5. I'd like to see your thoughts on Kingdom Grandprix on the Saturn. It was the first shmup I've ever 1cc'd, my favorite shmup, and the one I spent the most time on but whenever I see forums discussions about the game people complain that it is too easy. I'd like to know how it compares to other shmups in difficulty so I can figure out how much my success has to do with the time I put in to it. And it is such a polarizing game and I always enjoy hearing opinions of it because, despite my love for it, there are plenty of flaws with the design.

    1. That's definitely an interesting choice, Brian.
While I do need to tackle Raizing a bit more, I was kinda traumatized by Dimahoo when I tried it....
      So Kingdom Grandprix, check!
