  2. Hello.

I just discovered your blog. I'm fascinated by all the games you have cleared on one credit.

How long does it take on average for you to clear a single game on one credit? An afternoon? A week? A month?

Also, if I'm new to shmups, which games would be good for a beginner to 1cc?

    Thank you.

    1. How long it takes to clear a game certainly depends on how much time you're willing to invest in it. Yes, this seems obvious, but with very little time available lately I can certainly vouch for that. :)

Tough games will demand more time, of course. It took me lots of practice and some months to clear Raystorm and Raiden II, for example.

In the end your skills will be the determining factor. The good news is that with more play comes more practice, and noticing real personal improvement is one of the coolest things about getting into this particular gaming genre.

I don't know which systems you own, but for a beginner I'd say Thunder Force III (MD), Gradius III (SNES) or Jamestown (PS4/PC/Steam) are all good starting points. Some bullet hell shooters by Cave also come with novice modes that cater to beginners, such as Mushihimesama and Dodonpachi Resurrection, both currently available on Steam.

Hope you have lots of fun shmupping!

  3. This blog is amazing. Very happy I found it. I'm just starting out on the shmup path at the ripe old age of 35. Under Defeat and Raiden IV Overkill (PS3) take up most of my time at the moment, and I'm fascinated by Ketsui, even though I don't own it yet. I'll be sure to pick up some of your recommendations on PSN. Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks for the kind words.

Those are great game picks for the moment, regardless of how ripe we actually are!
